Here are a few possible outcomes if you die without a will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Married, no children \u2013 Your spouse inherits everything.<\/li>\n<li>Unmarried, no children \u2013 Your parents inherit everything.<\/li>\n<li>Married, with children \u2013 Your spouse inherits everything.<\/li>\n<li>Married, with children from a\u00a0previous relationship \u2013 Your spouse inherits half, and your children inherit the remainder, equally distributed.<\/li>\n<li>Unmarried, with children \u2013 Your children inherit everything, equally distributed.<\/li>\n<li>Unmarried, no children, no parents &#8211; Your siblings inherit everything, equally distributed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The outcomes listed above are possibilities. If you want to have a say in how your assets are divided, you must create an estate plan.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Children_and_Intestacy\"><\/span>Children and Intestacy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Dying without a will, in intestacy, can have a major impact on your children &#8211; both for the distribution of your assets as well as guardianship. Not all parent-child relationships are biological.
