After a first marriage, you know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marriage is work. There are no days off.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re a whole person. You don\u2019t need someone to complete you.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re not marrying someone you think you can change.<\/li>\n<li>Divorce made you a stronger person.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s important, to be honest in relationships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You now know what you didn\u2019t know then. One of the things you learned was that\u00a0some marriages evolve and some dissolve, and that\u2019s okay. For example, you may want to ask for a prenuptial agreement if your\u00a0fianc\u00e9 is entering the marriage with debt from their last marriage.<\/p>\n<p>You should ask for a prenuptial agreement if you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are still in school<\/li>\n<li>Have money saved for retirement<\/li>\n<li>Felt like you lost too much in your previous divorce<\/li>\n<li>Have children from\u00a0a previous marriage<\/li>\n<li>Live in Arizona (a community property state)<\/li>\n<li>Own a business<\/li>\n<li>Own investment properties<\/li>\n<li>Want to protect your future inheritance and\/or your children\u2019s inheritance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/institutedfa.com\/Prenuptial-Agreements-Marriage-Contracts-1\/\">appreciation in value<\/a> of a separate asset may become a marital asset, a business\u00a0or rental property are examples. Without a prenup, in Arizona, marital assets are divided equally upon divorce.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Ask_for_a_Prenuptial_Agreement\"><\/span>How to Ask for a Prenuptial Agreement<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You should plan a \u201cmeeting\u201d between just the two of you. Be sure to point out this meeting is proof of your respect for your partner and commitment to your marriage. Your wills and estate plans should be updated to reflect your second marriage.
